This archive is freely distributable. Give it (do NOT sell it)
to someone you like.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is version 1 of Gypsy. It was the first program I wrote on
the AMIGA and, through lack of any free time on my part, has been sitting
on the shelf for over a year now.
Even though the archive is humongous, it is worth the time and
effort to download. (My family and friends have practically worn out the
floppy, even though none of them will do anything else on a computer.)
If you use this program, I'd like you to send a donation of
$20 to (me):
JL Williams
3347 Mandevill Canyon Road
Los Angeles, CA. 90049
Sending the donation renders you a registered user and entitles you to
future updates of the program. If you want me to send the latest
version, or anything else that requires mailing you a disk, please
send an additional $5.
Sincerely,
JL Williams 8/29/87

There are several steps in setting up Gypsy to run on your system:
1. The program was written in AmigaBASIC, and you must put
"Gypsy" in the directory with AmigaBASIC in it.
(ie; df0:Basic/Gypsy, where AmigaBASIC is in the
"Basic" directory.)
2. You must create a subdirectory called "Cards" in the
directory containing Gypsy. (This is to help keep the
clutter of over 80 uninteresting files from bogging you
down when you list the directory.)
3. The program can be run by going through the normal, CLI
AmigaBASIC routine, or double clicking on the Gypsy Icon
at the workbench level.
4. A script file has been provided to ease your set-up.
("Execute Gypsy.scp" at the CLI prompt.)
5. ALL of the files, including this one, are required in
order to run Gypsy.
Points of interest:
1. The card images were created with a modified version of
the ObjEdit demo which was included on the AmigaBASIC
disk. (If you want to change them, they are separate from
the code, and easily, but tediously modified.)
2. Ditto for the card meanings and locations, although I
would not recommend playing with the text files since
their corruption will cause significant problems with the
program.
3. Gypsy stores the last "card reading" for each person who
uses it (in a file named by their name).
4. There is a bootable version of Gypsy which reduces the
time and effort necessary to start the program.
Technical details for Gypsy:
1. Gypsy uses a standard 78 card TAROT deck
2. Gypsy uses the Ancient Celtic Method for laying out the
cards. (After all, I am of Celtic extraction!)
3. Reversed cards show as images with black borders. (White
borders indicate non-reversed cards.)
4. This version of Gypsy does not put together a complete
reading from the cards. It requires that the subject be
able to gather the information into a unified whole.
